Wood Blinds vs. Cellular Shades in Vista: Which Do You Need for Your Home?

If you’re looking for window treatments that will help manage heating effectively in your home without opting for shutters, you’ve likely found yourself choosing between Vista cellular shades and wood blinds. Both offer some similar benefits, but they look so different. How can you possibly decide between two so distinctively different window coverings? Here are the pros and cons of the two to help.

Controlling the Direction of the Light

Both wood blinds and cellular shades will block out the light completely when fully closed. What about when you just want to darken the room, managing the direction of the light instead? This is where the wooden blinds will come into use. You can move the slats, allowing some light into the home, but keeping the glare away from your face, your TV, computer, screen, and certain types of furniture. You do get more control.

Cellular shades often open from the bottom up or from the top down. While you have more control than other types of shades, they’re not quite as effective as wooden blinds.

Managing the Warping

Real wood blinds will warp in the heat. This isn’t something you have to worry about with cellular shades in Vista. The material of the shades is designed to handle the UV rays without overly damaging it. There’s also a benefit in the way the shades are created.

Cellular shades are also known as honeycomb shades and this is due to the way the shades are made. If you look at them from the side, you see what looks like a honeycomb. The air circulates in and then around and back out in the direction it came. Heat isn’t absorbed by the materials, reducing the chance of warping. The only way around this with wood blinds is to get faux wood.

Dealing with Levels of Light

Vista cellular shades don’t just have the downside of not being able to control the direction of the light. Wood blinds offer more control of the light compared to cellular shades. With wood blinds, you can change the direction and allow some light in or create a full blackout effect. Cellular shades allow you to darken/create a blackout or allow light into the room.

You can get blackout cellular shades in Vista. You’ll know them through the aluminum within the honeycombs. Otherwise, they only darken the room.

Keeping Within the Budget

Wood blinds are far more expensive to get than cellular shades. This is something to consider if you’re on a tight budget. Cell shades are also beautiful despite being low budget, so you don’t have to worry about the old-school 80s style look in your home to save some money.

Cellular shades are just as cost effective as wooden blinds. You can still save plenty of money in the long term.

Which type of blind or shade is right for you? Wooden blinds can offer more light control, but Vista cellular shades are more affordable. Which do you need to think about the most?
