Roman Shades, a Style Guide Pt. 2 - Plain & Relaxed Folds
Last time on the blog we started doing a rundown of some of the most popular styles of a very popular type of window covering: the Roman Shade. We covered the flat and soft fold variants but there are still two other styles to cover so without further ado let’s look at the plain fold and the relaxed fold, this time on Budget Blinds of Tempe and Central Phoenix.
The Plain Fold
Perhaps one of the most popular styles of Roman shades out there is the Plain Fold, also known as the Knife Pleat. This type of shade has seams sewn across it, giving it stability and some more visual texture. These seams help the shade fold correctly when it is raised to the top of the window or door. The plain fold looks great when using solid fabric. Plain fold Roman shades also make a great choice when looking for a covering for a door.
The Relaxed Fold
With a name like that you know you’re in for a good shade. The relaxed fold, also known as European style has a soft curve at the bottom of the fabric. Charming and casual it brings a life of its own to every window. That casualness can be a double-edged sword. If the shades are lowered they can look messy, making the relaxed fold the best option for windows or doors where you’ll keep them at least somewhat open. Because of the relaxed curve to the shade, it does require a little bit of shaping and attention to keep it always looking its best but that little bit of attention and TLC goes a long way! That additional need for attention also means that while the window looks great when it’s set, it isn’t the best for frequent lowering and raising, you’ll just have to touch it up every time.
It Doesn’t Have to be Only Roman Shades...
Roman shades are great, if you haven’t picked up on that just yet you may not be paying attention, that’s okay go back to the start and reread we’ll wait…
Okay back? Alright so Roman shades rule, but they don’t have to be the only option you use! Pair them with another shade or drape to add privacy. Depending on the depth of your window you can easily mount a blackout shade behind it (and you know how much we like blackouts) to give you both the total light control and privacy you need with the style of shade you want.
