The Problems with Cheap Window Blinds

This time on the Budget Blinds of Scottsdale blog we wanted to talk about the problems with ‘cheap’ window blinds. You see, those two words don’t mean the same thing There’s a world of difference between cheap and budget.  Let’s get into them!

And to be clear, the images we're using on this blog are not cheap windows. We don't wanna sully are blog with pictures of bad blinds

The Problems with Cheap Window Blinds

While cheap might sound great, after all who doesn’t want to save money, the problems that can come along with things being cheap often adds up to being more than you save. Obviously we’re window covering experts here at Budget Blinds so we know. Here are some of the more common problems you might see if you buy cheap window blinds.

No Durability

One of the most coming ways for manufacturers to keep their costs low and sell cheap blinds is to make them out of weak materials. Weak blinds will bend and break and the slightest provocation - whether that’s a child pushing them apart or a cat climbing through. When these slats break like that they leave a gap in your window covering that becomes even more obnoxious!

Major Malfunctions

Cheap window blinds can be made with hardware and materials that aren’t the best like we said and this can manifest in more problems than just a cracked or split slat. When manufacturers use garbage components the mechanics of the blinds can suffer too. How often have you had this experience: Your room is too dark so you decided to raise the blinds. Pulling on the cord to raise them you hear a noise and the slats fall back down. The assemblies of window blinds are, and should be, fine tuned but well understood mechanics. When the gears or cords break inside the assembly the whole benefit of the blinds, being able to raise and lower or manipulate the slats open and closed,  are lost!

They Just Don’t Sit Right

We can’t tell you how many times we’ve come out to a home for our Free In-Home Consultations to look at old, cheap blinds that were installed poorly. Cheap blinds often come with cheap work and the tell tale sign is uneven blinds, or a set that are bunched up even when they are fully lowered to the bottom of the window sill. That’s a clear sign the blinds weren’t measured and installed for that window but instead whatever standard the factory kicked out.

Don’t get us wrong, sometimes a standard size is totally warranted – a lot of windows are made to common sizes – but when it’s clear the window blinds aren’t meant for your windows it is a problem.

Frequent Replacement

All of those problems mean one thing: if you want to fix your windows, you’ll need to replace the cheap blinds. And just like that, your ‘cheap’ blinds are costing you more than the right blinds.

What’s the saying, buy cheap buy twice? Well buy cheap window blinds and you might have to buy more than twice (how many windows in your house will need replacing?)

And here’s the thing. We’re not saying expensive = good either! There is a balance, a budget that makes sense for the durability and performance of a product and that doesn’t break your bank. Budget means we understand the costs, the risks and rewards, and finding the right balance of cost and performance.

Here at Budget Blinds we’re committed to helping our customers find the right window covering solutions for their budget. Not the cheapest window blinds out there.

That’s why we’re Budget Blinds, not Cheap Blinds.
