Springing Cleaning To-Dos!

With the winter almost past, (no help to that magical groundhog!) Spring is on the horizon and you know what that means! It’s time to clean out our dusty homes! The winter is a time to bundle up indoors, and it tends to get a bit stuffy. Let’s bring in Spring and the renewal of the seasons into our own homes. So this time on the Budget Blinds of Scottsdale blog we’re just going to lay out a checklist for you to follow! Don’t try and tackle it all in one day, you’ll likely get burnt out! Check it off as you go and go room to room over time and you can succeed!

 

The Entryway

Let’s start with the entrance to your home. Taking care of this first will be a daily reminder of the power of spring cleaning and encourage you to get the rest of the job done!

  • Sweep and Mop Floors
  • Clean Walls and Doors
  • Clean Baseboards
  • Dust and Clean Doormats

If your entryway is where you hand jackets, shoes, or other outdoor clothing, make sure you clean and organize them as well!

The Kitchen

With the same logic as the entryway, the kitchen is another great room to tackle early. To properly clean your kitchen make sure you:

 

  • Clean stovetop and oven
  • Clean microwave
  • Clean dishwasher
  • Clean refrigerator and freezer, don’t forget the seals!
  • Discard old or expired food in fridge, freezer, and pantry
  • Clear countertops
  • Degrease cabinet doors and backsplash

  • Deodorize, degrease, and clean the kitchen sink and drain
  • Wash dish rags and clean sponges
  • Wipe walls and baseboards

  • Shake out dust or dirt from floor mats

 

The Dining Room

While you’re at it taking care of the kitchen, it might be a good time to take care of the dining room while you’re at it! Often these rooms are attached so the cleaning of one, such as sweeping and mopping the floor of the kitchen, will lead you to the other. Here’s what to take care of for a total spring cleaning.

  • Dust and polish furniture (table, chairs, displays etc)
  • Vacuum or spot clean chair cushions
  • Wipe walls and baseboards
  • Clean light fixture
  • Dust blinds
  • Dust curtain rods
  • Wash windows and clean window sills
  • Clean/vacuum curtains

If you have fancy china make sure you dust and clear out them and their cabinet as well. Polish any silver, and clean any linens you use such as tablecloths and place settings.

The Bathrooms

Bathrooms are a perfect place to a do deep spring cleaning. They take a beating as the year goes on with toothpaste smears, water stains, empty hair products, you name it.

  • Get rid of expired products (hair cair, medications, etc.)
  • Clean makeup brushes
  • Clean vanity and mirror
  • Clean tub and shower
  • Clean showerhead
  • Replace shower curtain liner
  • Scrub tile grout
  • Clean toilet

The Laundry Room

Laundry rooms are another room that gets a lot of use throughout the year, washing clothes and often the home of your water heater. It reminds us of that thought “Can soap get dirty?” Well, your washing machine sure can!

  • Clean washing machine
  • Clean dryer vent and lint trap
  • Organize laundry supplies
  • Wipe walls and baseboards
  • Mop floors
  • Get your water heater inspected by a plumber.

The Bedrooms - Adults and Kids

  • Wipe baseboards and walls
  • Dust/polish furniture
  • Organize closets and dressers
  • Donate unused clothing
  • Wash bedding including sheets, pillows, duvets, bed skirts
  • Vacuum carpets
  • Flip mattress
  • Dust blinds and curtain rods

The Living Room

The Office

If you’re anything like a lot of Americans you have spent a lot of time in your home office the past couple of years. Nows the time to get it straightened out after 24 months of pandemic living have hit it.

  • Recycle unneeded paperwork
  • Dust/polish furniture
  • Dust electronics
  • Sanitize keyboard and mouse
  • Clear out all the snack drawers
  • Vacuum/sweep/mop as needed

The Garage

  • Declutter tools, sporting equipment and toys
  • Open up garage door to air out the space

With that, you should have all your main rooms covered. There may be some other general household things to take care of however. Things like, testing and replacing your smoke alarms, replacing air filters, cleaning all your lights. Those sort of house-wide things. Here’s a list.

  • Clean light fixtures
  • Replace light bulbs as needed
