Color of the Year 2021 - Ultimate Gray + Illuminating Yellow
Every year around this time the color wizards over at the Pantone Color Institute nominate the color of the year! Last year it was Classic Blue, before that Living Coral. This time they’ve cooked up something different, something that hasn’t been done before, they’ve chosen two colors in tandem to be the Color of the Year! Ultimate Gray + Illuminating Yellow – Let’s talk about that!
Ultimate Gray + Illuminating Yellow
Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow (or, if you want to get real specific, Pantone 17-5104 and 13-0647) have been chosen to be the 2021 Color(s) of the Year! As Pantone puts it the two colors come together to support each other and raise each other up, which represents the mood for the coming here. Gray is practical, rock solid while the yellow brings optimism and warmth to the combo. The two colors speak a message of endurance and hope after a year that needs no discussion.

Who is the Pantone Color Institute?
The Pantone Color Institute is responsible for selecting the Color of the Year, forecasting color trends, and consults with other companies for products and branding. They’re sort of the Big Wigs of Color when it comes down to it. Through the choice of color of the year and their work in trends and consulting other companies, they control the flow of styles and trend with their color theory.
How Do They Choose?
How does the Institute choose? It seems to be through some sort of color based alchemy! Okay, no it’s not some medieval magic, but it has just as much thought! They look at trends, look all over the world for new influences. It can come from social media, sporting events, films, anywhere. They look at the emotions, the vibes, and distill it into colors that reflect that.
What Does It Mean for Us?
What does a new color of the year mean for us here at Budget Blinds Scottsdale? Well it helps us know that industry wide, the yellow and gray colors are going to be on an upswing as different companies use them for their new designs. It means that we can have an eye on our own fabrics and patterns to offer the most current style for our customers, or to provide something that will complement it.
Most of all when it comes to interior design elements, which window coverings are, it’s just crucial for us to stay on top of these trends!
