The Hotel Julien called us and asked if we would be willing to look at the sad-looking motorized drapery in their ballroom installed years ago (not by us). Two of the five Austrian drapes were broken, drooping, and made the room look unpolished. David loves a good challenge and the opportunity to learn something new, so he agreed to do what he could.

We did an exploratory look, taking the drapery down and inspecting the back side of the cording that used to hold the bunched fabric in perfect increments. Multiple places had broken loose, creating an unbalanced and uneven drape. David was able to determine a simple but tedious solution. Our daughter, Violet, was able to accompany David on the first repair, and they both got to work measuring out the spacing. With needle and thread by hand, and a few hours later, they hung the drape back up on its brackets and stood back to admire their work. It was successful!

The second workday Maria joined David to repair the other drape. She got some practice with the needle and thread as well. They were able to rehang the second repaired drape and was very pleased with how it turned out.

The wedding events coordinator at the Hotel Julien was very happy with the results. She told us brides and grooms no longer feel the need to redirect the head table at their weddings to other parts of the room to avoid the broken drapery as an unattractive backdrop.
