If you ask Sherwin Williams, it is an earthy green called Evergreen Fog. Announced as the Sherwin Williams Color of the Year for 2022, Evergreen Fog reflects the design trend toward natural earthy neutrals.
It is a paint color that is being described as versatile, soothing, organic, and subtle.
As Sue Wadden, Director of Color at Sherwin Williams, describes it, “Evergreen Fog with its grey-green mid-tone, is a fresh reimagined version of a nostalgic green. It is versatile as it works well with all design styles from modern to rustic and farmhouse to traditional. It is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade of paint.”
The old-world vibe combined with the regenerative quality of this grey-green makes this color of the year one that plays nicely not only with a variety of styles, but also other paint colors. Sherwin Williams recommends pairing it with Soji White and Accessible Beige for a fresh look. Or try Woven Wicker or Bakelite Gold for a nod to the ’70s and ’80s.
Evergreen Fog, is also somewhat of a chameleon, changing with the light in the space. When photographed, depending on the lighting, it can look like a deep dark tone, or with a lot of natural light, it appears closer to a subtle sage green. Try it in a powder bath or on a kitchen island. Pair it with natural textures, light wood tones, and woven shades. For hardware and lighting accent with black or warm metals like brass. As Wadden said, “it is a shade that can go modern or nostalgic.” It also pairs really well with other design elements trending for 2022.
As we await the announcements from Benjamin Moore and Pantone on their predictions for the 2022 Color of the Year, we can be assured that as the clouds lift from 2021 we will all embrace the chance to begin again.
Here’s to new beginnings and fresh paint colors!!
