Supporting Wounded Warriors Canada in its Dedication to Helping Veterans

Budget Blinds® is honoured to partner with Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC), a non-profit organization that supports Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans and their families. With the support of our manufacturing partner, Springs Window Fashions® who produces our high-quality line of Signature Series® blinds, window shades, and drapes, Budget Blinds is donating $15,000 to WWC in 2015 to help ensure that their mission to Honour the Fallen, Help the Living continues.

Budget Blinds is part of a strong and growing “chain of caring” through this partnership. We support WWC who funds a diverse set of programs and services, many that are veteran-run or sponsored, that provide help and assistance to regular force, reservists or retired service members who are sufferers of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other casualties of war. As a private-funded charity, WWC depends on faithful and loyal individuals and Canadian businesses who commit to donations so the “pay it forward” momentum can continue.

Veterans helping veterans

It’s not surprising that many of the programs that WWC supports are veteran initiated and staffed by veteran volunteers. Having “been there” is sometimes the greatest incentive for one individual to reach out to another with a helping hand.

  • Gervais Jeffrey served in Afghanistan and upon returning home, discovered that fly fishing (learned and loved as a boy) was an activity that helped him center and reconnect with himself again. He started a local chapter of Project Healing Waters Canada and now he is a Wounded Warriors Canada National Fly Fishing Guide and Operations Manager with a team of dedicated volunteers who host fly fishing events to help other veterans. Drawing on the soothing benefits of nature and camaraderie, individuals are refreshed and recharged for facing the challenges of daily life with PTSD.
  • The Veterans Transition Network (VTN) involves veterans who have graduated from the program and successfully integrated into their communities. They are now reaching out to struggling veterans who need help moving out of self-imposed isolation and into fulfilling careers, often centering around giving back to the community. As one recovered service member shared, “It felt good to get back to something that is good in my life.”
