Supporting Veterans with Custom Wood Blinds on Designing Spaces’ Military Makeover

For the third time, Budget Blinds® is honored to participate with award-winning Designing Spaces’ Military Makeover airing on Lifetime Television®, helping to make life better for a deserving veteran and his family. The long, hot Florida summer is culminating in a newly renovated home for Marine Lance Corporal Michael Adams, his wife, Britiany, and daughters, eight-year old Nevaeh and three-year-old Cecelia. Budget Blinds is excited to install beautiful custom wood blinds for the Adams family.

Honoring those who have served and sacrificed

Giving back to our active military and veterans is close to the “corporate heart” of Budget Blinds, and partnering with Designing Spaces’ Military Makeover  is a way to say a very tangible “thank you.” This special mini-series is dedicated to giving back to members of the military and their families, involving seasoned expert decorators and designers, landscapers, neighbors and volunteers, and Budget Blinds. Hosted by retired United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant R. Lee Ermey, “The Gunny,” you can believe that everything possible is done to honor our veterans!

“We were thrilled to participate in Military Makeover for the third time,” said Tracy Christman, Vice President of Vendor Alliance at Budget Blinds. “Not only does Budget Blinds have a long-standing history and commitment to supporting our veterans, but also because one of Budget Blinds’ goals is to help educate consumers on products, options, and features to keep homes with children safe, while still enjoying beautiful window coverings.” Tracy makes a guest appearance, explaining the window covering choices for the Adams family and the benefits they provide.

Pam Shaw, franchise owner of Budget Blinds Serving the South Orlando Area and her team outfitted the entire home with beautiful custom window treatments in colors and styles to suit every room, as well as a large sliding glass door, French doors and a unique sidelight to the front door that required innovative solutions that you can see as the series unfolds. Pam shares, “We were delighted to participate in this project! We’re always proud to support our veterans in any way we can. My installers, Alex and Zane, were especially excited to meet Gunny! Alex and I met the Adams’ family when we did the measuring and had an opportunity to witness how much this makeover meant to them.”

Meet the Adams family

Lance Corporal Michael Adams had served two years in the Marines when, on deployment to Iraq in 2005, his vehicle ran over a double-stack anti-tank mine, resulting in multiple injuries to his left ankle and wrist, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and PTSD. Since being honorably discharged in 2007, he attended the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and became a certified motorcycle mechanic, and met and married the love of his life, Britiany, and they started a family. The youngest daughter, Cecelia, has medical challenges, including cerebral palsy and acute Autism that impact their daily lives.

The newest family member is JW, LCpl Adams’ service dog from K9 for Warriors. JW is a valuable friend; waking Adams from nightmares and helping him remain calm in crowded places. Last September, JW alerted Britiany when Adams had a stroke, effectively saving his life. JW is the ultimate “Good Dog!”

The house they live in belonged to Britiany’s grandparents and they offered the house as a rent-to-own so that they would always have a secure, forever home. The Military Makeover renovation ensures that the newly remodeled home will make life easier for every member of the family, maximizing living space and implementing child-safe window coverings.
