Back to School Party for Your Kids

Going back to school can be disappointing after a fun-filled summer vacation. To help get your kids excited about their upcoming school year, consider throwing a back to school party! Here are a few steps to a fun and easy party brought to you by Budget Blinds.

Backyard Campout

Before the weather gets too cold and your schedules get filled with sports practices, field trips and homework you should squeeze in a night of backyard camping! Invite their closest friends for a night to remember! Pitch tents, blow up some air mattresses, bust out the sleeping bags and coolers full of snacks. Set up an outdoor movie theater and play a film with a school setting such as High School Musical or Grease. Serve up some hot dogs, hamburgers, fruits and veggies and theater candy for a fun backyard campout. Finish the evening with some late-night s’mores— we guarantee this will be a hit with your kids!

School Supplies Exchange

We all know part of the fun of going back to school is shopping for some new school supplies. Colored pencils, themed folders, binders, markers, erasers galore! So, why not throw a school supplies exchange with their friends? Have every child bring their favorite school supply item to the party (enough for each child to have one and under a certain dollar amount). Each kid tells the others why they chose that item and why it’s their favorite before handing them out so each child gets one of everyone’s favorite back to school item. They will leave with a bag full of school supplies and excitement to start the new year!

Ice Cream Social

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! What better way to end summer and get everyone excited about going back to school than a little ice cream celebration. Invite their new classmates, neighbors and friends over for a little backyard “treat”. Have a build your own sundae bar with various ice cream flavors, sprinkles, gummy “bookworms”, chocolate chips, fudge, whipped cream and more delicious toppings! Encourage them to talk about their favorite summer memory and what they are most looking forward to this school year to make the idea of going back to school more exciting!

Fashion Show

Do your children enjoy going back to school clothes shopping? Have your child invite friends over for a fashion show. Set up a catwalk, turn down the lights, play some of their favorite music and hand everyone a flashlight so they can illuminate whoever is walking the runway. Serve bottled water, tea sandwiches and cookies to make them feel like they are in a high-fashion show. An alternative to this is to have all the kids bring an outfit they no longer want and everyone could exchange the secondhand clothes with each other to freshen up their wardrobes and anything left over can be donated to children in need.
