Spring Cleaning Must-Dos

Spring is around the corner and it’s only a matter of time until summer is here! You’re probably already daydreaming of warmer weather and filling the calendar with events to attend with the family. It’s also about this time of year when we realize how much stuff we accumulated from over the holiday season. Maybe you got burnt out from cleaning for holiday parties and now your home is looking a bit cluttered.

Let’s get into the spring cleaning spirit together! These simple hacks and project ideas will get your home ready for warmer weather.

Time to clean the blinds

At minimum, you should clean your blinds once per year and spring is the perfect time for that. We have an awesome blog that goes in-depth on how to clean each type of blinds. But to start, make dusting or vacuuming blinds part of the regular cleaning routine. For a deeper clean, use a soft cloth with soapy water, but not on real wood blinds! It’s best to use furniture polish or lemon oil on wood blinds. Leaving moisture on wood blinds can cause major damage. Again, our blog is a great resource on how to clean all types of blinds.

Declutter and reorganize the closets

Be honest, did you stash some of your kids’ toys in a closet because you didn’t have time to really clean? Maybe you hid a pile of laundry because guests were coming over. We’ve all been there. This is the perfect time to go through the closets, declutter, organize, and create donation bags. Normally it gets messier before it gets really clean, so focus on only one space at a time.

Deep clean the fridge, pantry, and kitchen cabinets

When was the last time you wiped down your fridge or defrosted the freezer? Spring cleaning is a good time to check expiration dates. Go through cabinets and create a donation bag for multiples of utensils and kitchen gadgets. Make sure each of your tupperware containers has a matching lid. Wipe down cabinets with furniture polish, and clean up little spills that got neglected. Make sure to do this BEFORE you go grocery shopping so there’s less to sort through.

Prep the outside space

If it’s a beautiful day, take advantage of the warm weather and do some cleaning outside. Take out the owner's manual of the grill and read up on the best way to clean it. Wipe down outdoor furniture and inspect/wash cushion covers. If you’re feeling extra motivated, check the caulk on windows and doors. If they are not properly sealed, it could cause a higher energy bill in the summer.

We hope these tips and ideas are helpful! When you’re cleaning the blinds, if you have a question or run into any trouble, let us know. We are more than happy to help.
