2020 Design Trends
Happy New Year! With this new decade, it’s a great time to update your home with up and coming design trends. We have gathered a few trends for you to consider. Let’s dive in.
Color of the Year
Have you heard? Pantone announced its 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue. The specific shade was chosen because it looks like the sky at dusk. Like dusk moves from day to night, the color represents moving into a new decade.
If you want to use Classic Blue in your home decor, consider it as an accent color like the wood blinds in the photo above. Because it is a darker shade of blue, you wouldn’t want to paint an entire room the color, but an accent wall would look nice. This color looks especially nice in a home office space. Swap out a few pillows on the bed or couch with this color, or buy a Classic Blue art piece to hang on the wall. Thankfully, Classic Blue goes well with a variety of colors so it’s easy to work into decor.
Old and New
There is a strong trend of pairing the old, like souvenirs and antiques, with new, modern decor. Get a standing ladder shelf and decorate with some of your favorite souvenirs, knick knacks, and cute garage-sale finds.
Multi-functional Spaces
Be honest, if you have a table in the kitchen and also a dining room, how often do you use the dining room? If that doesn’t apply to you, do you have one room in your home you rarely use? Having multi-functional spaces has become popular, especially as more employees are able to work from home. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the rooms of your home a bit.
If you do plan on creating more multi-functional spaces, prepare for more wear and tear in the room too. Use performance fabrics which are resistant to water, stains, mold, mildew, as well as being durable. A few examples of this are olefin, acrylic, nylon, and polyester. Budget Blinds utilizes performance fabrics in its window treatments, rugs, and bedding. Be sure to ask about performance fabrics during your free in-home consultation.
Finally, remember that trends come and go, styles and personal preferences change. As long as your home feels like home to you, that’s all that really matters.
