Josyln Art Museum Case Study

Check out Draper's case study that dives deeper into the story of The Josyln Art Museum!

Growing up in Omaha, Joslyn Art Museum was a staple of what this great city has to offer. In 2021, our teams at
Veil | engineered shading and Budget Blinds of Omaha and Lincoln were selected to design and install the state-of-the-art roller shade and drapery systems at the new Hawks Pavillion, a building that is one of the most beautiful construction projects in this city to date. It's been an honor to be involved in such a transformative project for the community.

Joslyn features over 150 custom roller shades by Draper - including unique "bottom-up" tensioned shades along the building’s Promenade that were designed and built in the Netherlands, with numerous details including custom machined and finished side channels and cable guides all centered around the goal of protecting artwork from direct glare, integrated seamlessly with the stunning curtain wall system by
Architectural Wall Systems, LLC.  Ninety-six skylight shades are placed above the gallery to give ownership detailed levels of daylight control, allowing the galleries to be fine-tuned to a range of scenes. The core of the system boasts a fully networked solar tracking roller shade system – providing solar tracking and time of day control. Drapery is even integrated into the life safety systems to maintain egress paths across all conditions.

Our team prides itself on establishing a reputation for design and innovative thinking, with over twenty of our project managers, engineers, and members of our field crew all playing a role in the design, installation, and commissioning of this building's truly world-class automated shading system. Joslyn is a testament of what can be built when industry leading design firms and contractors set their eyes on building something special. Kudos to all involved!

Draper, Inc. and their custom Solar Control Solutions (SCS) team provided detailing and fabrication services throughout the course of this project, they continue to deliver some of the largest and most complex shading systems in the region with our team. Over 11,000 square feet of Phifer Inc 3% twill-weave fabric spans the windows of this building, with another 2,000 square feet of beautiful blackout fabric from Serge Ferrari Group on the above-gallery skylight shades. Our team also provided motorized drapery across key spaces in the building.
