Collaborating With the Drew Barrymore Show

There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing the joy on a person’s face when a space in their home is transformed into something amazing.  Recently, Budget Blinds of West Essex had the unique experience of helping a national talk show elevate a family’s home and it was nothing short of amazing. 

You may remember Drew Barrymore as the child actress who starred in memorable films like ET: the Extra-Terrestrial or in later movies like 50 First Dates or The Wedding Singer.  In more recent years, this multi-talented producer, director and author has added an extra title to her resume: talk show host, with The Drew Barrymore Show launching in September of 2020. 

When scouting a trusted company to tackle a renovation for a segment called Designed by Drew, calling Budget Blinds of West Essex was a natural next step.  Celebrating their 30th anniversary in business, Budget Blinds is a leader in the industry with a proven record of success for thrilling customers.  One of the producers on the show was familiar with Budget Blinds as she had used the company in Connecticut.  As the family whose home would be refreshed was located in New Jersey, the show’s staff member looked for a local office, checking out the Google reviews and social media content for West Essex’s office and thought they would be a great fit for the project.

Vern Taylor III, the owner/ operator of Budget Blinds of West Essex, was up to the challenge of tricky logistics to make this project a success. “Before the shoot, the show was in constant contact about the parameters of our involvement.  Because of their production travel schedule, we weren’t able to meet in person, so I connected them to a franchisee in Miami, FL so they could review and choose a product.  I coordinated with that franchisee and the producers to finalize,” he explained.

The show was excited to revamp a science teacher’s mudroom into a beautiful, communal and most importantly, functional space for her and her kids.  Her husband, also a teacher, nominated his wife as the recipient of this exciting home makeover.  They purchased their home in October, 2018 and with 7 people in their family, there was a need for storage for things like jackets, shoes and the sports equipment her kids use, as well as privacy from the street view.  The sunroom was once the main entrance porch prior to it being enclosed and as it had a structural slant, it proved to be a bit more challenging.  

To give the family function and fashion, product selection was important.  The soft fold of the fabric Roman Shades that were chosen complimented the style of the padded tops of the built-in benches, making the space warm, inviting and the perfect place to take off your shoes at night.  Installing the shades on the sloped walls was a challenge that the team was up for, with stunning results.  From order to install, it took Taylor and his team 3 weeks to complete, with the installation itself taking 90 minutes. 

For Taylor, the appreciation of the family who loved their room was wonderful as was the honor of being recognized and chosen by the show, among stiff competition in the industry.  “Everyone deserves quality products and service, as it can inspire a family’s outlook on their day,” he reflected on the experience.
