Honeycomb Shades, Styles, Form, and Function
Welcome back to another entry here at the Budget Blinds of Tempe & Central Phoenix blog! Previously we have talked about window shutters, blackout blinds, and lutron shades as possible window covering solutions. This time we wanted to dig deeper into a type of shade we looked at as one of the best window treatments for the bathroom, honeycomb shades! How are they shaped, what are they best used for, we are going to cover it all!
Honeycomb Shades Overview
These favorite go by a few names: honeycomb shades or blinds, pleated blinds, and also known as cellular shades. The shape isn’t just for the bees anymore! Honeycomb shades are designed with multiple cells within the shades themselves to provide a ton of different benefits!
They might have a D shape that allow them to keep their flattened shape when pushed up (or rolled down.) While most blinds or shades are made from a harder material like the various woods in shutters, cellular blinds are made from a soft fabric, almost paper like material. Often these are spun lace, or bonded polyester. That material and engineering is what gives the major benefits of honeycomb shades.
Efficiency
For one, the structure (multiple layers of fabric and shade) and material we use in our cellular shades improve each and every room’s energy efficiency. The process, known as solar gain, is the transfer of heat via sunlight through windows. In a traditional window, some of the energy would be reflected back, let’s say half, while the other half penetrates the window pane and enters the home.
Their construction blocks out more heat and sunlight than standard windows. The cell in the shades create an air pocket, a barrier between the window surface and the room. This improves insulation, reducing the amount of heat that transfers from the hot window into the indoors. It keeps your rooms cooler, your A/C off and your energy bill down! When you have heat like we have had this summer, that’s a must!
Customizable and Versatile
Honeycomb shades can be made to fit every window or situation you might have. That material we talked about that helps energy efficiency can also be engineered to allow for four different lighting control options including sheer, light-filtering, room darkening, and black out. They can be customized to match any window, whether it be a uniquely angled window, a skylight, or more.
The shades are versatile, able to be installed in top-down, or bottom-up configurations, allowing for maximum light and privacy control. You can combine them with drapes, or vertical blinds to create your specific look.
Safety
This might not be the first thing you are looking for in a shade, but it is certainly a benefit worth talking about! Cellular shades are a cordless system, making them a safer option for families with young children and pets.
Honeycomb shades are just one of the hundreds of different window treatment styles and options we offer here at Budget Blinds of Tempe & Central Phoenix.
