Benefits of Motorized Drapes

We all know about motorized shades, but what about motorized drapes? Yes, you heard us right — motorized drapes! Home Automation

Home automation, as you probably know, goes beyond window treatments. Everything from lighting systems and thermostats to kitchen appliances are now boasting the “Smart” title in their name. As automation is becoming more and more prevalent in modern homes, we at Budget Blinds are staying ahead of the curve with our selection of automated window treatments. Unveil your view with statement-making style and ease using motorized draperies that feature the whisper-quiet operation of Somfy®, a global leader in state-of-the-art home automation systems.

Advanced motorized drapes have also been made available to many homeowners to help them control their home’s security aspect. They are also used to control the amount of sunlight that penetrates the windows of homes. So, what are the benefits of motorized drapes?

Benefits of Motorized Drapes

From opening your blinds for that amazing view to closing for privacy, our motorized option for drapes lets you do both effortlessly.

Motorized drapes enhance safety for homes with children or pets since there are no cords that they can become entangled in. The cordless design not only reduces the risk of potentially fatal accidents, it also makes it harder for your child or pet to damage the drapes as the pull cord is usually the weakest part of the system!

On top of that, you can do all of the following with motorized drapes from Budget Blinds of Tempe and Central Phoenix:

  • Program window coverings on timers to open and close at specific times during the day to help save on energy costs.
  • Offer an unmatched combination of convenience, innovative design, and safety.
  • Allow you to create instant security and privacy at the push of a button.
  • Unique sensors increase energy efficiency by automatically adjusting blinds with rising temperatures.
  • Program your window coverings to close when the sun is shining to keep fabrics, rugs, upholstery and artwork from fading.

Benefits that Come with Somfy® Motorized Drapes

Partnering with Somfy® means our customers receive benefits that aren’t offered anywhere else. For example, all Somfy® motors and controls are backed by a five year warranty to give you peace of mind.

With the myLink app, you can control all your curtains easily via your smartphone or a single remote control, which effortlessly helps protect your drapes from tearing and keeps them perfectly aligned.

You can choose voice activation options. also adjust the shades with the sound of your voice to ease the glare of the midday sun on your computer screen while your automatic lights adjust to provide optimal lighting for your work environment.

Things to Consider about Motorized Drapes

The style of the motorized drapes is a huge thing to consider. They usually come in two types: pinch pleat and ripple fold. The difference is how they stack when they’re open. The pinch pleat stacks tighter and smaller than the ripple fold, which stacks in S-shape style.

Beyond that, the choice of fabric and color are things you need to consider too. At Budget Blinds of Tempe and Central Phoenix, motorized drapes are available in virtually any fabric, texture or design.

How They Open and Close

Window treatment companies have manufactured and designed electric drapes to open in three major styles: right, left or center. When the motorized curtain opens to the right, it will stack itself on the right side of your window and if it opens to the left, it will stack itself on the left side of the window. If it opens from the center, your curtain will stack itself on both sides of the window, equally.

Why is this important? Well, you don’t want to block your window when it’s open! If you have a window that slides open horizontally, then you’ll want motorized drapes that push the fabric to the opposite side. If you have windows that open vertically, then you have more freedom — it all depends on how you want to frame your window.

The Weight of the Fabric

Weight of the fabric is also a very important factor to consider. If your fabric is heavy, you will need more than one motor to operate your motorized curtain. Our design experts will be able to provide you with samples and can help you decide which style and weight is right for you.
