Corded window treatments for residential use are no longer available in Canada.
 
Canada’s safety requirements for window coverings have become the strictest in the world to protect children from the threat of strangulation hazards. This applies to ALL products sold in Canada, both custom-made and off the shelf. Protect yourself and your loved ones by ensuring that you only purchase compliant window treatments!
How does this impact the window covering options that are available?
Some popular options such as “top down bottom up”, cord loop operated shades, and cord operated drapery and vertical blinds can no longer be sold in Canada, whether online or from retail stores. In addition, certain products have been affected by sizing restrictions. However, we have many window covering options without cords, and some new features!  
 
What should you do if you already have blinds and window coverings that have long accessible cords?
 
You can still take steps to reduce the risk. Make sure to:
  • Always keep cords out of the reach of children.
  • Never place cribs, beds, and playpens near a window where a child could reach a cord.
  • Do not place furniture that a child can climb near a window.
  • Ensure cord tensioners are secured and/or use cord cleats to tie up hanging cords.
