Budget Blinds has put together a guide to show you how to clean every window covering, no matter if you have wood or faux wood blinds, aluminum or vinyl blinds, fabric blinds or composite blinds. Grab your cleaning supplies and give your home the love and care it deserves (at least once a year). Check out these tips and tricks to make this chore an easy one!

Wood Blinds

Wood blinds from Budget Blinds provide an instant upgrade to any room. With a variety of colors that include rich earth tones and texture-rich finishes, wood blinds complement your existing furnishings with an amazing range of styles.

But, when it comes to cleaning wood blinds, gentle is key! Excess moisture is wood’s worst enemy, so avoid getting them wet. Dust them off using a clean soft cloth, a feather duster or a vacuum brush. Lower the blinds and tilt them until they are almost closed. Dust them off one slat at a time starting from the top and working your way down. Then reverse the slats and repeat. Allow time to air dry. Condition them with a wood conditioner to protect them against sun damage.

Faux Wood Blinds

When you’re looking for both style and substance, the impressive look and moisture resistance of faux wood blinds delivers. Faux wood blinds bring home the timeless appeal of genuine wood blinds, and at an attractive price. From durable, moisture-resistant composite blinds that embrace practicality in bathrooms and other high-humidity rooms, to teak faux wood blinds for that spot-on styling accent, faux wood blinds set the standard when durability and fashion count most.

And bonus, faux wood blinds are the easiest to clean because they are durable and resist warping. You can dust them just as you do wooden blinds, but you can also spot clean them using a mild detergent with warm water on a slightly moistened cloth, then blot dry. Once dry, run a dryer sheet along each slat to keep dust and grime from sticking for several months to come.

Aluminum and Vinyl Blinds

As a designer favorite that’s always in style, aluminum blinds merge fashion with full functionality that’s hard to match. A wide choice of colors, customized sizing, and optional motorized lift systems make aluminum blinds more popular than ever. In addition, vinyl blinds withstand harmful UV rays and adjust for a variety of room lighting conditions. And because vinyl blinds are easy to clean and add style to any room, they are the perfect choice for window coverings in your home!

For both aluminum and vinyl blinds, simply lower the blinds and tilt the slats down, but don't close them completely, or each slat won't get entirely cleaned. Dust them off and spot clean stains with a mild detergent using warm water and blot dry. You can also attach the soft dusting brush tool to your vacuum cleaner and vacuum a few slats at a time using a side-to-side motion.

Fabric Blinds

Fabric blinds add a stylish flair to any room and offer durable, easy-care, fabrics in the latest colors and weaves. With a choice of the latest fabrics, patterns, and colors from our exclusive line, fabric blinds combine more of what you’re looking for to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

To clean your fabric blinds, thoroughly vacuum them with the dust brush of your vacuum cleaner to remove all dirt and dander. If fabric blinds are stained, spot clean using a little fabric detergent (clear) or dampen a microfiber cloth to blot the stain away. Let the blinds dry completely before raising them up. If the stains don’t come up, we recommend you take them to a dry cleaner.

Composite Blinds

For moisture resistance, durability, and energy efficiency, composite blinds are an ideal solution. High tech polymer assists in repelling harsh sunlight and their resistance to moisture make these a natural for high humidity areas like bathrooms and windows above kitchen sinks. Plus, their real-wood look adds luster-rich, timeless styling.

Cleaning composite blinds is very simple and easy. Fill a bucket with warm water and add a teaspoon of mild detergent. Close the blinds, and starting in the top left corner, run the wet cloth along one slat at a time. Work your way across and down the blinds until you've cleaned every slat. Then, flip the blinds and repeat the process on the other side. Dry both sides of the blinds with a clean cloth and run a dryer sheet over each slat to help repel dust.

Remember, regular dusting is key—taking a proactive approach to cleaning blinds will keep your window blinds looking fabulous! Cleaning your blinds on a more regular basis will keep them looking as beautiful as the day you got them. Make sure to read the manufacturer’s guidelines when cleaning and use this as a baseline.
