Supporting Wounded Veterans with Designing Spaces’ Military Makeover

Being part of something bigger than oneself is a great way to connect with people and make a difference in the world. Designing Spaces’ Military Makeover, airing on Lifetime television, is just such an opportunity, and Budget Blinds® is honored to be a part of their mission of renovating homes for deserving members of the military.

This is our second venture with Military Makeover, and this show supports decorated war veteran, Lance Corporal Devin Kyle, and his young family. Participating in the remodel of their home is a tangible way to say “thank you for your service and sacrifice.” Chief Executive Officer of Budget Blinds and its parent company, Home Franchise Concepts, Shirin Behzadi, explains: “At Budget Blinds, we share a strong commitment to supporting veterans who have served our country. Many of our franchisees across the country are veterans or have personal connections to the U.S. Armed Forces, so we feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to give back to these true American heroes when and where we can.”

Budget Blinds and our manufacturing partners, Custom Brands Group and Draper, provided cordless, child-safe roller shades throughout the home, as well as professional measuring and installation services to ensure a perfect fit for every window. These custom roller shades will provide years of beauty, enjoyment and carefree light and privacy control.

Making a real difference

Marine Corps Lance Corporal Kyle was in Afghanistan in 2013 when he received a life-threatening injury to his right thigh. Now, over two years later and after multiple surgeries, he still has impaired mobility and remaining metal fragments that cannot be safely removed. His ongoing recovery includes dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and he says his motivations to stay positive are his wife, Joanna, and three-year-old daughter, Raelynn.

Show host, R. Lee Ermey, a.k.a., The Gunny, and co-host Art Edmonds lead the charge on the home makeovers, leading troops of volunteers and getting the enormous job done in a matter of days.

It’s an obligation. I feel strongly we need to give them a little boost, a help up,” Ermey explains.” It’s fun. We work hard all week and then, come the turnover day, that’s our big payout. That’s when Art and I reap the benefits of our labors.”

Window coverings are a major component in decorating, and they contribute greatly to the comfort and security of a home. Tracy Christman, Budget Blinds’ fashion and styles expert, appears on the show to talk about the choices made and the reasons why specific shades were chosen. She’ll share 2016 trends in home and window fashion design, as well as the many benefits that the right window coverings offer, including energy efficiency and motorization.

The three-part series begins on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 a.m. (ET/PT) on Lifetime® Television. Tune in to watch the renovation, highlighting the changes from start to finish. The final reveal when the family moves back into their “new” home is a celebration of caring, with an extra special surprise for Raelynn.
