The Budget Blinds® partnership with Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) was lived out in 25 homes in 17 different states during 2015. Every month, an average of two families received their new forever home from HFOT, complete with Signature Series® window coverings by Budget Blinds, and experienced the joy of cutting the ribbon!
Awarding mortgage-free, specially adapted homes to severely injured veterans Post-9/11 is the mission of HFOT. “We at Homes for Our Troops do not believe in giving a home to severely injured veterans in charity. We believe it is a moral obligation of our society. There is no way we can repay you for your service to our country, but we hope this home can be a down payment. — Major General (USA, retired) Timothy P. McHale, President/CEO of Homes for Our Troops
Budget Blinds is completely aligned with the HFOT philosophy, and has committed to a goal of donating $1,000,000 in cash, product, and services to Homes for Our Troops through 2017. Thanks to our trusted manufacturing partner, Springs Window Fashions®, we are able to commit to this goal, which includes outfitting each new HFOT home with faux wood blinds.
Todd Jackson, Co-founder of Budget Blinds, shares: “Our partnership with Homes for Our Troops has been incredibly humbling. We feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to give back to these true American heroes. As we continue this partnership and forge ahead toward our $1 million donation, we honor all of the members of the military as well as their families that have given up so much to fight for our freedom.”
However, it’s the selflessness of our independent franchise business owners that makes this partnership between Budget Blinds and HFOT really work. They give their time and expertise to measure and install the blinds even if, occasionally, it means putting a few hundred miles on the truck for a home outside their territory. Franchisees also take part in Volunteer Days when the landscaping goes in, and Key Ceremony Days when the homes are awarded, sometimes sharing the speaker’s platform to welcome the veteran home.
Many of our franchise owners have military backgrounds, having served themselves or having family members actively serving or with past service. With or without a military background, the consensus of Budget Blinds franchisees in supporting HFOT in building homes for veterans is that it’s an honor and privilege to help in any way they can.
- Tony Richerson, Budget Blinds serving Temecula, did his third and fourth HFOT homes this year.
- Budget Blinds franchise owners, Emmett and Jana Brost of Budget Blinds Serving Puyallup, joined Team HFOT and participated in the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, September 4 – 6, and raised $1,200+ for Homes for Our Troops.
- Steve Thackerson, franchise owner of Budget Blinds serving Birmingham did the blinds install for Dancing With the Stars “celebrity” veteran, Noah Galloway.
- Tania Wodzenski, franchise owner of Budget Blinds serving Syracuse and Central New York got a friend involved who was honored to sing America the Beautiful and the National Anthem at the Key Ceremony.
High fives and hats off to all our fabulous franchisees!
Cash donations are always welcomed
In September, Todd Jackson presented a $50,000 Budget Blinds corporate check to Homes for Our Troops Executive Director, Bill Ivey. This marked a third of the way through the three-year partnership, with a total donation to date of approximately $334,000. This includes product and cash donations from Springs Window Fashions and the measuring and installation services provided by the franchisees.
Additionally, individual franchisees have made personal cash donations throughout 2015, totaling nearly $28,000 through November, with more gifts anticipated by year-end. With one-time gifts, month-to-month, quarterly and year-end lump sums, support for our veterans through the Homes for Our Troops partnership is growing.
