Go BOLD with Color
Color: We love it. It’s fun. It’s exciting. It’s eye-catching and memorable. It brings life, personality, and uniqueness to a home. But it takes both boldness and balance to use it well. If you’re considering adding more color to your home, it’s time to step out of your comfort zone!
The first rule of decorating with bold colors is to start by creating a canvas with neutrals. Neutrals like white, gray, brown, beige, and cream, known as “Earth tones,” provide a great starting point. Once you have your base, then add in more color. Decorating with only neutrals makes a room rather boring.
When you’re working in more color, there’s a general 60-30-10 rule to follow. Use 60 percent of your favorite color, then 30 percent of a secondary color, and 10 percent of one more. This principle can apply to the same colors but different hues. Don’t be afraid to push the boundaries and go for bold, saturated colors.
Colorful window treatments can work in any room. We recommend using curtain panels or valances to make the biggest color impact. Consider what type of mood you want to convey through the color choice and window treatments. Do you want to evoke a light, flirtatious mood with sheer window treatments to let in plenty of light? Do you want something that offers insulation agreatestmum room darkening options? It’s okay if you don’t have all the answers yet. A Budget Blinds design expert will help work through those questions at your free in-home consultation. Here are a few more ideas to go bold with color in your home.
Bedroom
Add a pop of color to the bedroom with bedding! Use a bold color on the comforter or with accent pillows. For an even bigger punch, use an accent chair of the same color and place a standing lamp beside it. Our Inspired Bedding Collection™ comes in a variety of colors, whether you want something bold or a neutral base with accent pillows.
Living room
A colorful sofa or loveseat can be the focal point of your living room. Not sure you are going to love that bold color in a few years? Opt for a neutral sofa and add color with accent pillows and an area rug instead. It’s easier to swap out a few pillows or a rug than it is to swap out living room seating. Other living room ideas include a large, colorful wall art piece, coffee table, or an ottoman.
Budget Blinds offers custom area rugs in addition to its top-of-the-line window treatments! Area rugs help extend the life of your flooring while providing a special design accent to your home.
Dining room
The easiest way to add color to a dining room is with a table runner. Have the runner match the area rug and window treatments to create an awe-inspiring space.
Kitchen
If you have seating in your kitchen, go bold with colorful counter stools. Kitchen accessories are a fun, subtle way to incorporate a color theme too. For example, a dutch oven, stand mixer, utensil holder, fruit bowl, and the list goes on. These items come in a range of colors that can add personality to the space. If you’re building or remodeling your home, consider colored tile as backsplash.
Bathroom
Lastly, tie a color theme together in the bathroom with rugs, towels, the shower curtain, and roller shades. Because the bathroom is an enclosed space, you can veer away from the color scheme of the rest of the home without making it look out of place. Don’t forget that you can also use a colorful accent wall in any room, including the bathroom. Just remember that it should be an accent color, not the color of every wall.
