Common Fabrics for Window Treatments

Budget Blinds offers a variety of fabric options as you shop for new curtains and drapes. While this is not an extensive list of what we offer, learn about a few types of fabric and why we use them in our products.

Polyester

Polyester is a common fabric for window treatments because it is durable, resistant to water and mildew, and affordable. Polyester curtains are very low maintenance, resistant to wrinkling, stretching out, and wrinkling. It is an ideal fabric for the bedroom or living room and is a stronger fabric than cotton. We use polyester both on its own and in combination with other fabrics.

Flax

When you hear about cotton vs. linen, you might wonder what linen actually is. Linen comes from the stalk of the flax plant. It is very strong, flexible, and one of the most environmentally conscious fabrics being both biodegradable and recyclable. A few other fun facts:

• Flax is a renewable resource,

• Chemicals are not required to turn flax into linen

• Flax production uses less water to produce than cotton

Cotton

Cotton is the most popular fabric in the world. It comes from the cotton plant and is very cost-effective. You are likely familiar with cotton clothing, but cotton makes for great window treatments as well. It is a strong, biodegradable fabric that filters light well and makes for beautiful window treatments.

Rayon

Rayon is a synthetic fabric made of wood pulp. While it might not sound like it, it is cost-effective but still feels luxurious. It has the feel of silk and velvet together, soft and thick. It is also great for printing designs and is easy to dye. It is better used for window treatments than furniture because it can deform when stretched. The best use for the fabric is hanging beautifully on your windows.
